The Value of Rural Character

Those counties throughout the United States that rank in the top 10 fastest growing counties in the Nation are often aligned with a sense of rural character, close enough to big metropolitan cities and airports to attract second homeowners and commuters or telecommuters.  Wasatch, Tooele and Morgan Counties are all listed in the top ten fastest growing counties in the Nation.  Wasatch County is third.  This begs the question of what happens to the economy of these communities when the rural character is lost to asphalt and concrete. Communities that lose the open pastural setting to cookie cutter development lose long term economic vitality, market values drop and investment in commercial business suffers.
